Outdated Mental Health Housing Models Aren’t Working

Now decades-old, mental health housing models created and funded by New York State’s Office of Mental Health no longer provide the resources that providers need to serve residents with severe mental illness who reside within them. These outdated models are causing staffing shortages due in large part to an inability to pay staff a living wage, as well as are falling short in caring for the elevated modern needs of residents, which include co-occurring conditions, multiple medications and heightened medical concerns, as well as aging, safety and security issues. This video highlights concerns experienced by staff working within these programs.

See how you can help ensure that NYS mental health housing programs offer the highest quality of care for both their staff and residents here.
